Doctor Who: 11 Reasons We Love Matt Smith (And The Eleventh Doctor)

6. The Mind Of A Timelord

Mind of a Timelord

A nice little thing, unique to the Matt Smith Doctor (Pertwee's mind-battle notwithstanding) is the look that we get into his mind's eye. A couple of times, mainly in Moffat Scripts we get to see his methodical 3D note-taking and each time there is a real sense of occasion and a special vibe. In the 'Eleventh Hour' we follow the Doctor's inner eye as he scans the surrounding area looking for 'what was wrong.' The snappy animation combined with the exciting sound-effects generating a faintly disorientating response in the viewer as they too try to catch what it is that the Doctor is looking for (but like seriously what was up with Rory's name-badge?) The confrontation scene from 'Lets Kill Hitler', between River Song and The Doctor builds upon the earlier scene. It is oddly thrilling to see all of the unseen events that took place during that shot. What the audience sees is a regeneration. What the Doctor and River see is a gun, a banana and a whole lot of hi-jinks. What these scenes do is properly separate the Doctor from humanity.

Whilst not writing articles for WhatCulture! Stephen can usually be found livin' it up in the city or livin' it down on the couch in front of one of many DVDs. You can tell how many of his friends are in Edinburgh at any given time by measuring how prolific he is on this site.
