Doctor Who: 12 Cool Details Revealed In Steven Moffat's Blink Commentary
6. Michael Obiora Had To Re-Record ALL Of His Dialogue In A Different Accent
The unlucky Billy Shipton doesn't last too long in Blink, appearing for one short scene in a parking garage before being sent back in time by the Angels. He then re-appears as an old man and dies in a hospital bed. It's impossible to not feel sorry for him.
But from actor Michael Obiora's (young Billy) perspective, he was probably quite pleased that he only had a short amount of screen time. Why? Well, in order to finish the episode, he had to go back and re-record every single line of dialogue he had already filmed.
Moffat spoke about this during the commentary, noting that Obiora's natural accent wasn't strong enough, and didn't match the accent of the actor they'd hired to play older Billy. As a result, Obiora had to go into a sound booth and re-record his lines again, making sure to get the accent right.
This means that all of young Billy's dialogue in the episode was dubbed, and impressively, you can't even tell. Major props to the sound guys!
