While this isn't brand-new information (the scene we're about to discuss is already up on YouTube), it's worth discussing here for those who may not know about it.

As tweeted by David Tennant, a scene was written and filmed wherein the Doctor gives his clone a small piece of the TARDIS, telling him to "grow your own" in order protect the parallel universe that he and Rose will be staying in.

In a second tweet, Tennant added that "a whole spinoff series never happened", which would've presumably showed Rose protecting her own universe from alien threats. Maybe Tennant would've been involved too (as the duplicate Doctor), perhaps in a small capacity?

The BBC did actually commission a Rose spinoff series all the way back in 2006, but it was soon cancelled. Given that Journey's End didn't air until 2008, it's not clear if the commissioned series and the hypothetical series mentioned by Tennant are one and the same, but either way, we obviously came pretty close to seeing Billie Piper lead her own show set in the Whoniverse - and we're sad that it never happened.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
