Doctor Who: 15 Real Historical Characters The Doctor Has Met

A bold choice of character for our favourite time lord to visit, but one that was handled with the right degree of humour, even if the journey was far too short. Appearing in the misleadingly titled 'Let's Kill Hitler', the Fuhrer is actually relegated to a secondary plot focus, a strange decision given the episode's title.

The scene with Earth's most notorious real villain is largely played for laughs, with the Doctor and his ever growing 'gang' accidentally 'saving' Hitler when the TARDIS crashes. After Hitler thanks them for saving his life, Smith's Doctor replies "Trust me, it was not intentional", a perfect response befitting the scene. The subsequent moment where Rory locks Hitler in a cupboard is also quite funny, if a little slapstick.

Unfortunately that's all we see of Hitler, the episode segueing into the origins of River Song instead and wasting an opportunity to pit the Doctor against a truly horrifying villain.
