Fiction writers are always going to draw from real-world experiences when working on their projects, and this is something that Moffat has done a lot with Doctor Who.

Take the fish custard sequence, for example. According to the writer, this iconic moment was inspired by "the Tigger scene" from Winnie the Pooh, something that he found hilarious as a child, and had his mother read it to him "over and over again".

It's not clear which specific Winnie the Pooh scene Moffat is talking about here (and because he says "read", he's obviously referring to a book), though there is a sequence from one of the animations where Tigger proclaims that he really likes honey, only to try some and immediately reject it.

This is extremely similar to the fish custard scene, wherein the Doctor states that he's craving all kinds of foods, only to try them and end up hating them. "Bad bad beans."
