Doctor Who: 25 Actors We'd Love To Call The Doctor

22. Olivia Colman

Another female contender to be the Doctor, and someone who's already been in the show, Olivia Colman was many people's first choice during the speculation last year. Having made her name on shows like Peep Show and Green Wing, she's clearly suited to the comedic side of the Doctor, just as we hope Capaldi will be. But having earned plaudits for her more serious work - including a huge role in 'Broadchurch' that saw her combine fantastically with David Tennant - she's an actress in demand from two very different audiences. Can you think of any actress more perfect for those moments when Doctor Who crosses into sitcom territory?

21. Benedict Cumberbatch

Come on. Who doesn't want to see Benedict Cumberbatch appear in Doctor Who? Whilst Benedict would make for a marvellous Master, recent Sherlock appearances prove that he could also hack it as a nice Time Lord too; viewers are finally seeing warmth to add to the otherworldliness and ferocious presence that Cumberbatch has become known for. And that's without touching on the darkness he brought to Khan, or the steely stare of his Julian Assange portrayal. Unfortunately, Benedict has ruled himself out of being the Doctor, though. We can dream though.
