1. Its a Change Only Doctor Who Could Do
The greatest strength of Doctor Who is its ability to reinvent itself. The show has no set genre (yes, its a science fiction program, but the setting for stories is extremely flexible): one week you can have a murder mystery on Earth in the 20th century and the next you can be thousands of light years away, hundreds of years in the future in an action adventure. The show has changed so much over fifty years that its practically unrecognizable from its original version. There have been eleven actors playing the same character with several different creative visions guiding the show. No other show has ever done anything close and its highly unlikely any show will ever accomplish something similar. The very spirit of Doctor Who and the Doctor himself is change. The Doctor is always in search of new experiences and new ways of seeing the universe. Essentially, it comes down to conservatism versus progress. Progress should not be mistaken for a presupposition that evolution automatically makes things better. It's just that there are two ways to come at this issue. You can say that things should stay as they always have been or you can be open to the idea that things can change. Its pretty clear which the Doctor would prefer.
