Doctor Who: 5 Best & 5 Worst Creature Designs From The Original Series

Worst Creature no. 2: The Myrka (Warriors of the Deep)

Myrka

This is undoubtedly the most terrifying pantomime horse Doctor Who has ever seen. Judging by the size and extremely low speed it's pretty obvious that there are two people inside it attempting to "amble" in as menacing a fashion as possible. The Silurians unleash him upon the crew of Sea Base 4 where he does relatively little damage apart from pinning Tegan under a fallen door by standing on it, and it takes him a good long while to shuffle his way down the largely deserted corridors to the control deck, which he never manages to reach. Now, you might just about get away with all of that if the Myrka looked even vaguely convincing, but it doesn't. It's made of wobbly green rubber stuff, with a seaweed beard and a smug sort of look on its face as if it knows how much grief it's giving us viewers even now. All the same, I'd love to see two people turn up to a convention dressed as this guy. Imagine one of those getting on the train!
