Doctor Who: 5 Mistakes The Revived Series Is Making (And How To Fix Them)

1. Too Many Mary Sue Companions

The Bad Wolf revelation of 2005 was a massive shakeup in Doctor Who. The show had seen companions be the heroes in the past but never had it happened in such an epic fashion. By opening the heart of the TARDIS, Rose absorbed the power of the time vortex and used it to obliterate the Dalek Emperor and his entire army. It was a twist no one saw coming and it made the first series that much more memorable. It also became the template for subsequent series arcs. Martha walked the Earth during the Year That Never Was, spreading the story of the Doctor in order to give people hope and standing her ground with the Master. Donna became the DoctorDonna, the Most Important Woman in Creation, and subsequently saved the universe from annihilation. Amy, meanwhile, was the Girl Who Remembered, growing up with exposure to a time crack made her sensitive to changes in timelines and she used her memories to bring the Doctor back to reality. The most recent addition to this lineup is Clara, aka the Impossible Girl, who entered the Doctor's timeline on Trenzalore in order to defeat the Great Intelligence and states that she "was born to save the Doctor." There's nothing wrong with having the companion save the day every now and then but it's happening so frequently that it's coming very, very old and cliche. What compounds the issue is that the companions don't become ordinary heroes but Very Special Heroes on whom the fate of the entire universe rests. It's old by now and the show needs to branch into a new direction. Maybe the writers could have the next companion, whoever that may be, just be an ordinary person who does not go on to save the universe or the Doctor... you know, just to change things up for a bit? What did you think of this list? Are there any other mistakes that the revived series of Doctor Who has been making? Let us know what they are and how you'd fix them in the comments section below. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2gyhoo_10-things-you-didn-t-know-about-doctor-who_tv
