Doctor Who: 5 More Potential Masters For Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor

4. Bill Nighy

Ah, Bill Nighy. From Love Actually to Pirates of the Caribbean, Hot Fuzz to Hitchhikers, one of Britain's best recent actors has had his fair share of varied and vivid film roles. So, why would he be good for playing one of television's most eccentric villains? Simply because he would be able to, and with some ease. Nighy would relish the role, creating a charming, smiling yet passionately cruel antithesis of the Doctor, and at almost the same age as the incoming Peter Capaldi, would make an excellent match up for the new man in the box. Having played Davy Jones in the 'Pirates' films, albeit more as a villain in the second film, Nighy knows what it takes to make a villain come alive - and make it believable. However, he might not be able to give the energy or possible enthusiasm that some of the other entrants could. An excellent actor, yes, but no longer in his 30s' or 40s' (which again isn't a bad thing). It just doesn't seem possible that Nighy could, or would, be able to replicate the dancing, snarling, menacing Master which preceded him - almost mirroring the problem which Capaldi will undoubtedly face when inheriting the TARDIS keys. A prime but, again, unlikely candidate.

Me? I'm 17 years old, from Dawlish, Devon and studying (tirelessly) at Exeter College. I love pretty much anything, am a fan of numerous TV programmes and films, countless books and topics, from Sherlock to the Cold War, Doctor Who to Muse and my ambition is to become a journalist in any field which I have an interest in, and I hope to show my opinions (although varied) to the full.
