1. Susan Leaves But of course the major moment in Dalek Invasion of Earth is reserved for the ending when Susan leaves the TARDIS. As we now understand Carole-Ann Ford felt that she had to leave the show for various reasons, largely connected to the lack of development of her character. This meant that the producers could conveniently park any need to explain the details of Susan's heritage and how she and the Doctor found themselves wandering reality in the TARDIS. For the first time the show shed one of its major characters and set in motion the pattern that would continue and allow the programme to still be fighting fit as it approached 50 years of age.
