Doctor Who: 5 Ridiculous 12th Doctor Casting Rumours That Won't Happen

5. Billie Piper

doctor who rose For the life of me, I can€™t figure out where this rumour keeps coming from (I€™ve also heard rumours / musing pre The Name Of The Doctor that Jenna-Louise Coleman€™s Clara was a future incarnation of the Doctor) I€™ll admit, I can€™t see the Doctor as a woman. I just don€™t think the Doctor would change gender for no reason. I also think it would make for an odd dynamic with Clara. (For better or worse the Male Doctor / female companion relationship works €“ though I€™m a fan of trios; Doctor/Harry/Sarah Jane and Doctor/Amy/Rory) And I have no issue with female Timelord as a main character. Perhaps reintroduce Romana, who can then regenerate whenever the current actress decides to leave? The possibilities are endless. What I find baffling about this €˜rumour€™ is that Billie Piper has already played a pivotal role in Nu Who as Rose. In many ways, Russell T Davies made her the pinnacle character of his era €“ the companion to bridge Doctors, rid the Dalek menace (twice) as Bad Wolf and fall in love with the Tenth Doctor. She€™s had her money€™s worth. Plus, why would the Doctor to choose to regenerate into the image of a former companion? If Rose, why not Ian or Barbara, Jo, Sarah Jane or Amy? It just doesn€™t make any sense, apart from the audience wanting to drag back a beloved character any way they can, with an actress who, guest parts aside (50th), is done with Doctor Who. I liked Rose. She was a strong companion with some meaty stories to play with. I happen to think Donna, Amy, Rory and now Clara are better, but that€™s my preference. And while Billie Piper surprised everyone to become a good actress, I don€™t think she has quite the acting chops to play the pivotal role of the Doctor. Though apparently William Hill have her at 16-1 to replace Matt Smith€
