Doctor Who: 50 Greatest Ever Stories

10. The Tomb Of The Cybermen (Second Doctor)

tomb of the cybermen And here we have the final Cybermen story on our list, and undoubtedly the greatest. The earliest serial featuring the second Doctor to exist in it's entirety, it follows an expedition team on the planet Telos when they uncover a mysterious opening in a mountain. Arriving at the same time are the Doctor and his companions Jamie McCrimmon and Victoria Waterfield. When they enter, they find the opening is much larger than they expected, and houses an enormous army of hibernating Cybermen, which one man on the crew unwittingly awakens. Or was it an accident....?

9. Blink (Tenth Doctor)

blink doctor who I could spend all day explaining what makes this episode cool - the introduction of the Weeping Angels, the awesome performance by Carey Mulligan - but I'd never be able to do better than simply pasting here the words the Doctor is saying in the above picture. "They're coming. The angels are coming for you, but listen, your life could depend on this: don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast, faster than you could believe. Don't turn your back! Don't look away, and don't blink! Good luck." There have been some negative side affects of this episode - several follow-up Weeping Angel stories that seem set on destroying everything that made this episode cool, and the general mentality of the writers nowadays that making 12-year olds scream automatically equals quality - but don't let those detract from your enjoyment of this great episode.
