This just in from the BBC - The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special will be broadcast in 3D! Promising "whole new dimension of adventure for the Doctor to explore", Steven Moffat is going to wow fans with the Third Dimension, as confirmed today. While this isn't the first venture into 3D that the show has made, between 3D segments for both the 30th anniversary special, "Dimensions In Time" and the Second Series episode, "Doomsday", it will be the first time that an episode has been broadcast in its entirety in 3D. Further commenting on the story, Steven Moffat said:
"I'm mostly excited , a little bit nervous and aware of trying not to let people down." So to confirm what we know so far: Doctor Who's 50th anniversary special is
rumored to have all 11 Doctors, but is confirmed to be filmed in 3D.
Also confirmed is Matt Smith's status beyond the 50th Anniversary:
he's not leaving yet. Mr. Smith was recently cast in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, "How To Catch A Monster", and as such a BBC representative commented that:
"...Matt is taking advantage of a gap in the Doctor Who production schedule to take on another project....Matt is committed to the show. He will be around for a while yet." This, in addition to Mark Gatiss' telefilm "An Adventure In Time and Space", is what the BBC have planned for their end of the 50th anniversary festivities; whereas BBC America is running classic Doctor Who once a month with a focus on each Doctor, leading up to the big anniversary in November. In addition to the comic series, Prisoners of Time; and the year-long eBook series which also started last month, there's plenty for Doctor Who fans to be excited about!
