If you don’t want to take our word for it and are still unsure of whether or not Jodie Whittaker will make a great Doctor, then check out these overwhelmingly positive responses from others in the industry, including some notable members of the Doctor Who alumni.

Some of them, like Tracey Ann-Oberman, are excited by the change of gender - “A generation of young Whovians who will now know that as a female in the Universe you don’t have to be the assistant.” Former Doctor Colin Baker, who once asserted that the Doctor would always be male, tweeted “as a Father of daughters – result.”

But most are simply full of praise for Jodie Whittaker’s qualities as an actor. Charlie Brooker (creator of Black Mirror) confidently asserts that she has been brilliant in every role she’s played. Attack the Block co-star John Boyega tweeted his pride in her appointment, claiming she’d be awesome.

In a more measured statement current Doctor Who incumbent Peter Capaldi highlights the fact that the actor shares the same values as the Doctor: “Anyone who has seen Jodie Whittaker’s work will know that she is a wonderful actress of great individuality and charm. She has above all the huge heart to play this most special part. She’s going to be a fantastic Doctor.”

In Broadchurch Whittaker acted alongside two other Doctors - David Tennant and David Bradley, as well as Arthur Darvill, who played regular companion Rory Williams in series 5-7a, and Torchwood star Eve Myles. Apparently she’s planning to ask them for advice, but all the evidence suggests that she won’t be needing it.
