6. Bors Is Pledged To The Doctor's Service
The first scene of the prequel continues with Bors explaining that he is pledged to the Doctor's service ever since the Doctor saved his life. The Doctor replies, "I didn't save your life - you had a splinter."
"Where is it that you must go? Why must you meditate first?" asks Bors, irritated. (Here, he's getting right to the point - the audience would like to know the answers to these questions too. Although, the answer may - disappointingly - be, "To drag out the suspense.")
"Someone I know is very sick," answers the Doctor. "He'll want to see me before... while there's still time."
"An old friend?" asks Bors.
"Someone I've known a very long time," replies the Doctor, evasively. From his expression, it's clear that, no, the person is not a friend.
"If there is danger, let me ride at your side!" insists Bors.
"You can't help me - not where I'm going. I have to get myself ready," answers the Time Lord. "I have to be alone. I have to think. No more distractions."
Huffily, Bors says, "As you wish." He turns to leave, unhappy at the Doctor's attitude.
Again, the Doctor drinks from the goblet, pulls a disgusted face, and exclaims, "Hang on a minute!" He clambers to his feet and explains to Bors, "The water!"
Bors is confused, but the Doctor talks over him. "I don't like it. I can't meditate properly without decent water!" Cue comedic music as Bors sniffs the cup's contents, and the scene shifts to...
