Doctor Who: 7 Things You Need To Know About The Doctor's Meditation Prequel

5. And We're Digging A Well

"We're going to dig a well!" says the Doctor loudly as he leads a group of medieval people through tall grasses outside the castle. This strange obsession with the water is plainly displacement behaviour on the Doctor's part. He's doing this instead of getting on with meeting the mysterious sick person.

"Right on, er, this spot!" he adds. "There will be excellent water right here."

"How do you know?" enquires Bors.

The Doctor laughs. "I'm very good at water." This comment could presage upcoming episodes where the Fisher King and a whole lot of water will feature heavily.

The caption "Day 5" flashes up. This is the first of many captions indicating the very, very long time the Doctor spends on this obsessive search for pure water. No wonder he irritates people - how do these medieval people put up with him?

"This is definitely a good spot for water," insists the Doctor. Bors objects, "But this is the twelfth place you've made us dig."

"Twelve is my lucky number!" retorts the Doctor. earning the biggest laugh yet from the audience.

Bors is far from impressed.
