Doctor Who: 8 News Stories That Never Die

1. David Tennant To Come Back

David Tennant is the millennial Tom Baker. The Tenth Doctor was an iconic incarnation, the Doctor to a whole generation of kids now grown into nostalgic adults. As well as being one of TV's nicest men, and a terrific and in-demand actor, Tennant is a Doctor Who fan. It's why he returned to the role for the 50th anniversary, and has continued to do so for Big Finish.

Tennant is such a big deal for people that these licensed audio adventures are often reported on in certain corners of the press as if they're brand new TV episodes of the show! Most recently, Tennant has been rumoured to be both the 14th and a returning 10th Doctor, and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if he did indeed return for the 60th. As much as he's the millennial Tom Baker, he's also the millennial Patrick Troughton, an actor who was always keen to return to the role.

The David Tennant return stories are the Doctor Who equivalent of those nostalgic newspaper headlines that trumpet some return to old-fashioned ideals or some perceived golden age. When an 80-something Tom Baker returned to the role of the Doctor for the Shada reconstruction, it made the news. It will be the same when a 93-year-old David Tennant returns for Doctor Who's 100th anniversary.
