3. The Doctor Became Obsessed With Rose

It was romantic at first, but then it just became downright annoying. Series 3 and 4 were riddled with frequent references to our favourite, blonde time traveller and fans began wondering whether the Doctor's tendencies to whisper her name, his voice cracking, and reminisce about her blondness was a sweet, heartfelt gesture or an unhealthy obsession. Villains and cantankerous brides all throughout the remainder of the Tenth Doctor's tenure managed to rile him by uttering that one, immortal name. In The Runaway Bride, after Donna Noble stumbles upon Rose's neglected jacket, she unceremoniously questions whether the Doctor makes a habit of abducting women (well, about that...) and later, at her wedding, the crowded dance floor surfaces memories of Rose, not dancing, but rather collapsing into the Doctor's arms after Cassandra's consciousness had evanesced from her body for some reason. During The Shakespeare Code, a cackling Carrionite taunts the Doctor by including the "distant Rose" in her terrible rhyme and the Doctor even admitted to Martha's face that she was useless, that only Rose would know what to do. And the list goes on. It seemed that the Doctor's broken hearts were irreparable as he was condemned to doting Rose for the rest of his lives. This reality almost motivates us to - God, forbid - empathise with Martha. Sometimes, you just wanted to pull the Doctor's head out of the nebula clouds or plunge him into the Medusa Cascade. Yet he would still insist that a Rose by any other name wouldn't smell as sweet. You, of all people, Doctor, should know better than to misappropriate a Shakespeare quotation.
