3. Parodies
Anything high-profile is guaranteed to get some parodying. While this is sometimes restricted to amateurs on YouTube, sometimes the parody can become almost as famous as the subject. Case in point: Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death, the 1999 Red Nose Day charity special. Written by one Steven Moffat and starring Rowan Atkinson as the Ninth Doctor, it tells the story of the Doctor deciding to retire after having "saved every planet in the known universe a minimum of 27 times". It also stars Julia Sawalha as his companion Emily and Jonathan Pryce as The Master. The total runtime of the special is 23 minutes, and worth every bit of it. Another notable parody originated on the NBC sitcom Community, wherein several of the main characters are huge fans of a British science fiction series called Inspector Spacetime. After becoming popular in its own right, the actor who portrayed the Inspector began a web series about the character, but was prohibited from using the name by NBC. It was re-titled "Untitled Web Series About a Space Traveler Who Can Also Travel Through Time". You can watch it
