Doctor Who: All 40 Steven Moffat Episodes Ranked From Worst To Best
11. Asylum Of The Daleks
When the Doctor faces down an innumerable number of his greatest enemy, with the TARDIS and his companions in the background, it is one of the most memorable moments in their storied history. Plus the above still is the ultimate in Doctor Who iconography.
The cacophony of raucous and unnerving shouts when the Parliament of the Daleks demand "save the Daleks" and "Doctor who?" makes Prime Minister's Question's in the House of Commons look positively tame and polite.
Having lost some of their terrifying lustre, the Daleks are back to being the aberration the Doctor despises. Their scary dial is turned up several notches too; like a dormant volcano, there's nothing more dangerous than running a gauntlet of maniacal Daleks that have just erupted with murderous intent.
But what also makes this episode great is that, despite the inconvenience of being trapped in the Dalek nuthouse, the focal point for the Doctor is the saving of Amy and Rory's marriage.
Additionally, the character of Oswin Oswald is the best of the three Jenna Coleman portrays on the show (although the likeable Cockney Clara is a very close second). She exhibits the perfect balance of confidence and sassiness without it becoming too irksome. There's more of an instant attachment to Oswin that, by the end, it makes the realisation that she's been fully converted into a Dalek more anguishing.
