Doctor Who: All Chris Chibnall Episodes Ranked From Worst To Best

The return of old Who villains, the Silurians, was highly anticipated by many. Unfortunately, we were left with this dull and lifeless story that manages to cheapen the old foe. Like most Chibnall stories, this double episode starts off in strong fashion, with Amy seemingly sinking to her death early on. The Doctor soon springs into action, and when he carelessly leaves a boy behind to be taken by the Silurians, the stakes are upped significantly.

However, that's where the fun ends, as the remainder of the two-parter drags its feet in a lifeless exploration of human behaviour under pressure, and contract negotiations. It is also the first time we get a true feel of Chibnall's obsession with the sonic screwdriver, with Matt Smith's Doctor waving it around far too easily to save the day.

There is barely any sense of threat throughout the second episode, and as the focus switches more on to the contract negotiations the viewers attention span is sorely tested. There is a shock ending when that persistent crack in time turns up and kills Rory, which could have been truly impactful if we didn't know that he was absolutely coming back in a few episodes time.

With all the suave and sophistication of any Aussie half way through a slab, Luke will critique every minute detail of films and shows from all eras- unless it's 1990's Simpsons episodes, because they're just perfect
