Doctor Who: All Chris Chibnall Episodes Ranked From Worst To Best

Chris Chibnall Doctor Who
BBC Studios

This episode is the definition of an story with two distinct halves, and is as good an example as any of the strengths and weaknesses of Chibnall as a writer. While the Issue of the weak storyline was starting to feel very tired at this stage, it actually played out quite well in the opening acts here.

The gang are split up at various locations around the world, all exploring a range of strange phenomena that, at first glance, appear to not be connected. The efforts to figure out exactly what is going on and how these seemingly different events are linked is great fun- until we find out what the problem is.

The rest of the episode is largely an exposition dump on how bad plastics are for the environment, with the lame explanation that birds have turned evil because they ate them being hard to engage with on any level. There are also some of the most idiotic decisions made by characters in Doctor Who history, including a man who stands directly under ravenous birds when he could just as easily viewed them from a safe distance.
