Doctor Who - Big Finish Mega-Review

€œTwenty-five years ago, with Richter's Syndrome running rampant throughout the galaxy, the brilliant biochemist Nyssa, formerly of Traken, bade a painful farewell to her young family... and set off into the space, in search of a cure for this deadly disease. She never returned. Now, her grown-up son continues her work on the penal colony of Valderon, still desperate to make the breakthrough that eluded his presumed-dead mother. So when the TARDIS lands on Valderon, bringing the Doctor, Tegan, Turlough and Nyssa to its fortress prison, the scene is set for a painful reunion... but not only for Nyssa. The Doctor's past is about to catch up with him too...€
To understand this story, you need to understand the whole timeline with the audio version of Nyssa. Ok, so after the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough left her on Terminus, they encountered her, twenty-five years later (from her view), working elsewhere. She wound up joining Team TARDIS and traveling with them all. During an adventure last year, she was de-aged back to how she€™d been during the TV show. Got all that? This story was also quite good, if a bit timey-wimey. It was rather touching to discover that Nyssa named her son Adric, and the nods to other bits of continuity were quite nice, too. I also absolutely loved seeing the family dynamic at work, and Nyssa having to face up to the choices that she made. What was really nice, however, was the adversary in this story. It was a particular entity that I wouldn€™t have, in a thousand years, guessed at. The adversary really fit the tale, and was a nice addition to the Big Finish universe. I hope they find a way for us to see it again at some point. Now I will say that the last parts of the story were very Moffat-esque. If you like paradoxes and timey-wimey stuff, you€™ll absolutely love the resolution here. It worked, more or less, but I€™d rather Big Finish not pull that stunt again. So there you have it. A three-month mega-review. I hope you enjoyed it!
