DOCTOR WHO Companions Amy & Rory Leaving The Show Next Year

Matt Smith's Doctor Who will meet "a new friend" as his new companion but no casting is believed to have been made yet.

Doctor Who's show-runner Steven Moffat has announced that the Time lord's current companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) are to be written out of the show during the next series, airing in 2012. Matt Smith's Doctor Who will meet "a new friend" as his new companion but no casting is believed to have been made yet. Moffat made the announcement of Amy & Rory's departure from the show during a screening of the much anticipated forthcoming Christmas day, World War II themed episode 'The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe' at BBC's TV Centre in London. The episode follows our Doctor on an adventure with Madge Arwell (Claire Skinner) and her two children, Lily and Cyril, when they are evacuated from London to Dorset during the war.
Amy and Rory will be rejoining us next series and joining the Doctor back on the Tardis, but the final days of the Ponds are coming €“ and during the next series. I€™m not telling you when and certainly not telling you how. But that story is going to come to a heartbreaking end. There are only so many more adventures with the lovely Amy and the lovely Rory. So that story, next series, during the series will be over. And then the Doctor is going to meet a new friend €“ and I€™m not going to tell you anything about he, she or it!.. Who knows? It is Doctor Who. There€™s a universe of people to choose from.
Matt Smith said;
"We had the most incredible journey. We took over the show and we've really had to hold hands and help each other through it. "So it's very disappointing, but one has to remember that this show is about change and regeneration, and that's what galvanizes it and pushes it forwards."
Potentially, BBC producers are on the lookout for two separate companions for Doctor Who next year, what with the proposed David Yates spearheading reboot. Though over the past few weeks that has unfolded as perhaps a project that was announced prematurely and has many stumblings blocks to overcome next year.
