Doctor Who: Dot And Bubble Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs

6. DOWN - Lindy's Mobility

Following on from my last point, I'd like to come back to Lindy's little walking problem, because frankly, it's so bad it deserves its own Down.

The idea that Lindy is completely incapable of walking in a direction without instructions from her Dot is insanely dumb, and not in a good way. Despite her limbs functioning properly with the bubble up, she loses motor function without it, unable to walk in a straight line.

The depth perception issue with the table is perhaps understandable, but not being able to step backwards from a literal monster, or walking straight into a lamp post twice in a row? It's just a bit silly, really. I sympathised with the Doctor's immense frustration here – though he's one to talk considering the last two episodes have been caused by him not looking where he's going and stepping on something extremely dangerous. Even Ruby managed to step on a butterfly – seriously, this is the weirdest running theme ever.

What really makes this fall flat as a concept though is RTD realising that the episode is going to get really old really quick if we have to watch Lindy stagger into walls for the rest of it, so he just decides to abandon the idea halfway through. Lindy is cured the moment she meets Ricky, gleefully jogging around the city, taking a flight of stairs at speed, and even managing to climb flawlessly down a ladder at the end. It's a Christmas miracle.
