Doctor Who: Dot And Bubble Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs

2. UP - Lindy's Betrayal

That's all the moaning out of the way, because I'm pleased to say that the final ten minutes of this episode were top notch.

Dot and Bubble pulls a Kill the Moon here, slapping you with some breathtakingly intense character work at the eleventh hour. The final act is a one-two punch of shocking turns, the second of which I'll cover in a moment. For now, let's talk about the moment where Lindy fed Ricky to the metaphorical lions.

By this point, we're all too aware that Lindy is by no means a good person, but it isn't until right at the end that we truly understand how vile she is. Despite idolising Ricky, she is willing to sacrifice him in a heartbeat when she thinks her life might be at risk, despite the fact she isn't even necessarily in a 'my life or his' situation – they've managed to survive the Dot thus far, but she seizes the moment regardless.

Ricky's death is so blunt, and despite the lack of blood, quite graphic for this show through implication alone. But what's more disturbing is how Lindy does this with almost no remorse. She doesn't say sorry, she just climbs down the ladder and waltzes off with a forced, disconcerting smile.

Another instance where the wrong person survives. At this point, Lindy is practically the antagonist, and it only gets worse.
