Doctor Who Eve Of The Daleks: 10 Huge Questions After The New Year Special
1. Will The Daleks Come Back For The 13th Doctor?
Old school fans will no doubt have squealed with delight when they saw the classic Sea Devil appear in the next time trailer. It’s a monster whose best chance at returning was always going to be under Chibnall, a self-confessed fan. They look as good now as they did in the 70s, with no need for any major redesign and the signs are promising that this one could be a classic.
It does mean that the next special is likely to be a standalone piece, a bit of self-indulgency from the departing showrunner as he ticks off his Doctor Who bucket list. So expect the Flux and its consequences to be there, but only in the background, even less signposted that it was in Eve of the Daleks.
But that begs the question, why would the Daleks give up after this failed attempt to execute the Doctor? They still hold her responsible for the near genocide of their species and it’s hard to imagine the relentless creatures not tracking the Doctor down again.
Given that Chibnall’s final story is the 60th
anniversary of the BBC special, it would be unimaginable if the Daleks did not
return even if they don’t come alone (as in The Day of the Doctor). Time, the
Division, Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans and The Grand Serpent, could all be back,
with the Master as the one to bring them all together. An alliance of enemies
intent on bringing about the Doctor’s final destruction.
