Doctor Who Eve Of The Daleks: 10 Huge Questions After The New Year Special
3. Why Was Karl From Sheffield There?
Karl’s unexpected appearance at the end of the episode is
bizarre to say the least. Last seen in Sheffield, when the Doctor saved him
from being a victim of the Stenza, Tim Shaw, he’s never been mentioned again.
Now here he is, watching the fireworks coming from the destroyed warehouse, in
Manchester.
We are led to believe he is alone, talking to himself as he looks either side to apparently see nobody else watching the display with him. He jokes the pyrotechnics are just for his benefit. But could this be a rouse by Chibnall, could he be talking to somebody else after all? Someone who has brought him from Sheffield to Manchester. The coincidence is too great otherwise.
But who could be with him, and why would they want him to see the show? Was he meant to be witnessing the Doctor’s death? Is it Tim Shaw, has he found a way off Ranskoor av Kolos? Perhaps it’s Graham one side of him and Ryan the other… and they are there to find the Doctor. We can’t help thinking this scene will be revisited in the final 13th Doctor story. Bringing her back to how it all started in some way.
