Doctor Who: Every 11th Doctor Episode Ranked Worse To Best

29. The Girl Who Waited

At least once every season we have what is known as the ‘cheap episode’, an episode with minimal CGI, minimal actors and minimal sets. This is done so the budget can be used sparingly in the other episodes but can actually lead to some incredibly creative episodes. Look at Blink which used statues as the villains, only a few characters and just five minutes of screen time from the Doctor.

However, The Girl Who Waited is not an example of these limitations being used effectively. The story feels incredibly flat and is only saved by Karen Gillan’s subtle yet moving performance as an older Amy who has been left by the Doctor. While there is a lot to be desired in this episode, the novelty of seeing Gillan interacting with herself allows her to prove herself as one of the best actors to grace Doctor Who.

Having said this, the finale which sees Amy performing a slow-motion Macarena is toe-curling to say the least.
