Doctor Who: Every Festive Special Ranked From Worst To Best
4. A Christmas Carol
Matt Smith's first Christmas outing from 2010 has him jump back into a heartless old man's timestream in order to convince him to save a crashing spaceship. Along the way, he meets opera singer Katherine Jenkins, and there's also a flying shark, because sure.
The episode is incredibly bittersweet, revealing how Michael Gambon's character Kazran Sardick became so jaded in his older years. It offers a unique take on Dickens' original source material, which has been adapted to death in recent years. But this is one of the superior takes.
It isn't perfect though - the flying sharks are a bit rubbish, especially when Jenkins starts singing to one. But this is Doctor Who. You have to tolerate hovering fish every now and then.
