Poor old lonely Solitract. All it wanted to do was be part of the Doctor's reality, but its energy was not compatible with the universe's fundamental building blocks.

The universe banished the Solitract to another plane of existence and created the Antizone to stop a fatal incursion between both realities. But the Solitract is also a conscious universe, able to replicate people like Grace to entice Graham into staying in its world.

Oh and yeah, it also took the form of a frog with the voice of Grace.
