Doctor Who: EVERY NuWho Villain And Monster Ranked Worst To Best

43. Grand Marshal Skaldak

Appears in: Cold War.

The Ice Warriors - or to be more accurate, an Ice Warrior - made a triumphant return to Doctor Who back in 2013 in Mark Gatiss' superb submarine escapade.

Encased in ice for 5000 years, Grand Marshal Skaldak was brought aboard a Soviet sub, and then defrosted by an impatient member of the crew. Cue total carnage with Skaldek running amok in a sinking boat. Whether that's stomping around in his seemingly impenetrable armour, or moving around stealthily in his true form like a Xenomorph, Skaldek proves to be one of the show's genuinely formidable threats. Heck, he's that respected that his enemies carved his name into their own flesh before he killed them!

However Skaldek isn't all about the blood and thunder: there's also a sadness to his story when he mourns his long-dead daughter, and he showed mercy in deciding not to fire the sub's nuclear missiles that would've resulted in billions of people dying.

The name's Colbourn, James - yeah, doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
