Doctor Who: EVERY NuWho Villain And Monster Ranked Worst To Best

39. Klineman Halpen

Doctor Who villains
BBC

Appears in: Planet of the Ood.

Given the overall blockbuster bonanza of antagonists in Series 4 - the Vashta Nerada, the Midnight Entity, and Davros - it's easy to forget Tim McInnerny's standout villain: a 42nd century slave trader of the benevolent Ood.

It was engrossing to watch Halpen mirroring the Ood's own rabid behaviour - his furious frustration with red-eye "infecting" the Ood, ordering the gassing of 2000 Ood, then murdering Dr Ryder, who turned out to be an infiltrator from Friends of the Ood, by heaving him into the Ood Brain.

Halpen's clearly gone deranged at that point, which is understandable considering he's lost complete control of his heinous business. His erratic behaviour - slurred speech, difficulty focusing whilst pointing a gun at the Doctor, Donna, and Ood Sigma - actually signified the start of that shockingly graphic transformation. No need for you to worry about hair loss now, Mr Halpen.

The name's Colbourn, James - yeah, doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
