Such is the wonderfully limitless - and barmy - world of Doctor Who, it's perfectly plausible for us to see bald and badass Scottish monks in the 19th century engaging in Matrix-style moves, who also happen to worship a space werewolf, which they want to use to supplant the Royal Family.

Despite displaying a very nifty costume change, and astute ingenuity in making the werewolf fear mistletoe, the red-robed Brethren were merely facilitators for unleashing the terror and chaos upon the Torchwood Estate. The master monk, Father Angelo, gets shot and killed by Queen Victoria - maybe it's a Royal Decree that the British monarch can shoot anyone who dares not to address them correctly.

By the end, the rest of the monks have seemingly just disappeared into the night. It would've been interesting to see the Brethren survive in some capacity, opposing Torchwood down the decades. Or maybe they even infiltrated Torchwood One given how dangerously powerful they became, much like Hydra did with S.H.I.E.L.D.
