The Doctor wasn't the only one on Demon's Run to rise higher than ever before and then fall so much further.

The other was Colonel Manton, standing bold as brass on an awesome asteroid base and giving a rousing speech to his soldiers about how the Doctor was not a devil, nor a god, nor a trickster. Manton was even permitted to reveal what was under the hoods of the Headless Monks. Ooh! His authority was absolute... until the Doctor revealed himself in the guise of a Headless Monk.

Manton's face said it all: it disintegrated into disbelief, then anger, and then anguished acceptance at losing complete control. The Doctor adds the humiliating cherry on top by telling him to order his troops to "run away", for which Manton will forever be known as Colonel Runaway. Ouch!
