Doctor Who Flux: 10 Huge Questions After War Of The Sontarans

1. What Are Azure And Swarm Up To?

Doctor Who Flux (Series 13)

The very glam rock Azure and Swarm, now accompanied by the masked figure of Passenger, completely own the stage whenever they enter. It’s like a throwback to Doctor Who villains of the past, where they actually relish the chance to be downright evil, without all the emotional baggage that slows everything down.

But what are they trying to achieve? We know that Carvanista is grudgingly around to species bond with Dan (ooh-err), and despite some of his methods being suspiciously like the Master’s, barring a big reversal, we are supposed to see him as one of the good guys after all. We know what the Sontarans aim is, that never changes. But Azure and Swarm have yet to declare their hand.

Swarm has broken free of his prison, so revenge against those who put him there could be one thing he is after. But what is the reason for Azure’s involvement? The simplest explanation is that they are returning to whatever scheme caused Swarm to be locked up in the first place. Something we know scares the Time Lords in particular.

This begs the question, why is Swarm trying to save the TARDIS? Is he planning to steal it? He’s very dismissive of the Doctor’s fondness for what he calls the ordinary and insignificant, a stance that is identical to Carvanista’s. Could the twist be that underneath that mask, thanks to some time travelling shenanigans, Passenger turns out to be Dan’s Scooby-doo? The Doctor knows she is walking into a trap with Dan, but when did the trap start?
