When Doctor Who returned at the start of 2020 for the 12th series it came with the most significant twists and turns in the programs 57-year history. The series included the return of The Master, Captain Jack Harkness and even the Judoon who were last seen in the episode, Face The Raven.

Two moments from the series that startled its fans were the introduction of another Doctor and the truth circling the Timeless Child. Fans were divided about the change to the show's history but what did The Doctor herself make of it?

"I knew that what we know of the Doctor's history would be thrown into question. I certainly knew that there would be a moment with another Doctor. But initially, I didn't know anything about how that moment would play out or what the interaction would be." - Jodie Whittaker (The Doctor Who Magazine 2021 Yearbook)

It seems that when Jodie was told about the introduction of another Doctor in the series she wasn't entirely sure if it would be a new actor appearing or an actor who had played the role previously. There was zero chance of it being the Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston, who recently said live on the daytime TV program Lorraine that he would return to the Doctor Who TV show "when hell freezes over".

Don't get your hopes up. Jodie also suggested that the storyline regarding The Timeless Child and The Fugitive Doctor were kept very vague from her. Even during early script stages she still was not sure how The Fugitive Doctor was actually going to fit into the Doctor's timeline.

"I didn't know if it was in the sense of a flashback to the Timeless Child or something else entirely. There were so many different ways of interpreting it. But when I found out about the whole gene-splice thing, and the reason why there's another Doctor, I was like "WHAT THE...?!" - Jodie Whittaker (The Doctor Who Magazine 2021 Yearbook)

The future of The Fugitive Doctor is still very puzzling to fans of the show who are hoping for some answers in the new holiday special, Revolution of the Dalek, or it's 13th season.
