When Did He Appear? The Series 7 finale The Name Of The Doctor and the upcoming 50th Anniversary Special And so we come to the newest alternate Doctor. Speculation is rife as to just who he is and what he did that caused him to be rejected by the other Doctors but the most widely accepted theory is that the Eighth Doctor regenerated into him before or during the Time War and that it is he who destroyed Gallifrey. Other theories are that he is an older Eighth Doctor, that he is the Valeyard, or that he is something completely new.
