Doctor Who: Matt Smith’s 11 Best Understated Moments

1. River€™s Last Farewell

farewell river I€™d love to put every second of Smith€™s screen time in €œThe Name of the Doctor€ on this list, but there€™s just not enough space. So instead, I picked my favorite. He€™s just had an emotional farewell with his wife, whom he will (presumably) never see again, whom he knows has just faded away forever in front of him. Smith gets this look, and it€™s so complicated and sad. He just stand there, for a moment, letting the loss wash over him. He bows his head€”and then he turns around and goes to get Clara. It€™s a wonderful moment, a sort of final chapter in the Eleventh Doctor€™s struggle to accept death over the last year. Someone he loved has died, has passed forever from the world and from him. But he has learned how to absorb it, and how to walk away. I swear I thought this would be a funny list. What happened to the funny?
