Doctor Who: Series 9 Episode Titles And Plots Announced

8. Episode 5: The Girl Who Died

Doctor Who Steven Moffat
BBC

Ignore the dodgy dragon that's already been compared with the big pink Mara snake from Snakedance, this episode is written by Jamie Mathieson and Steven Moffat, so it's likely to be very good. The dialogue linked with this Viking-themed tale is:

"There’s going to be a war tomorrow. And here’s some news, this just in – we are going to win the hell out it!"

The story summary confirms something leaked a while ago, Maisie Williams (from Game of Thrones) is playing a character called Ashildr. The name means  "battle god" in ancient Scandinavian, which may be a clue, or not. There are more certain clues in Moffat's summary:

In a backwater of history, in a little Viking village where all the warriors have just been slaughtered, a young girl called Ashildr is about to make a desperate mistake. The Mire are the deadliest mercenaries in the galaxy, famed for being unstoppable and without mercy - and Ashildr has just declared war on them. The Doctor and Clara have twelve hours, to turn a handful of farmers and blacksmiths into a fighting force ready to face down Odin himself. And there’s more - because this is the day when the Doctor remembers where he’s seen his own face before.

The last sentence is especially interesting as it adds weight to the fan theory that the Doctor's resemblance to a certain Roman merchant in The Fires of Pompeii will be explained.
