4. Return Of The Movellans
As fans noted from the glimpse of them in the Series Ten trailers, The Pilot sees the unlikely return of the Movellans. These Disco-ready aliens previously appeared in 1979's Destiny of the Daleks. In that story, it was stated that the Movellans had been stuck in an unending war with the Daleks for centuries. The race were again mentioned in 1983's Resurrection of the Daleks. On that occasion, the Daleks revived their creator Davros in order to help them best the Movellans once and for all.
In this episode, it seems that the Doctor has dropped into one of the battles of this war. If you want to get really nerdy about it, we imagine this battle is from quite early in the conflict. By the later stages depicted in Destiny, both sides have become more machine than organic and their positronic brains are struggling to find a creative solution to their fighting. In The Pilot, the Movellans are screaming and shouting which suggests they are not yet fully-robotic.
