Doctor Who Series 11: 4 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Demons Of The Punjab'

Giving the guest stars of the series a big welcome at the end of episode one was wonderful. Little did we know just how wonderful these guest stars would be. Amita Suman is excellent as a young Nani Umbreen, Shane Zaza is honestly excellent as Prem, but for me, top marks goes to Hamza Jeetoa as Prem’s younger brother, Manish. Performances that make you fall in love with a character are one thing, but there’s a whole other side to playing a character. When you manage to make the audience truly hate you, especially in as short a space of time as this.

Think Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter series, or for me, Alfre Woodard as Mariah in Luke Cage. Incredible performances, but you love to hate the character they play. Manish absolutely ticks this box, and Hamza Jeetoa does an incredible job of it. Wanting to fortify those boundaries between religions, going the distance of murder to reinforce his beliefs, it’s a bit on the nose for political commentary, but that’s the point.

What did you think of Demons of the Punjab? Let us know down in the comments.

Born in Theatre, sits at a Computer. After over a decade of tinkering with Video Editing software, Rich gets to spend his precious time editing whatever's thrown at him. Also the go-to for Doctor Who, and could tell you why Sans Serif fonts are better than most. Still occasionally tap dances under the desk.
