Doctor Who Series 11: 4 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Kerblam!'

1. The Companions Are Equally Relevant For Once

Doctor Who Kerblam

For the first time this series, it really feels like each of the three companions is relevant. It’s something not only I’ve been complaining about so far this series, so it’s nice to see we’re getting our money’s worth with everyone. Ryan works in the final wrapping and boxing department with the Doctor, Yaz works in the warehouse, fishing out the items to be distributed, and Graham mops the floor! Lovely.

Each character had a separate arc going through at least the first act of this episode, and it was great to see. No-one lurking about in the background, just being there for the sake of being there. Ryan was exchanging pleasantries and subsequently introducing Kira, Yaz was exchanging pleasantries and subsequently introducing Lee Mack’s Dan, and Graham was exchanging pleasantries and subsequently introducing Charlie.

It doesn’t sound that interesting on paper, no, but it’s a damn sight better than Ryan going- ‘look, a creepy robot.’ Eventually Ryan and Yaz come back together and the story goes from there, but unlike before, nobody felt inherently useless. It’s a nice change. More of this, please.

What did you think of Kerblam!? Let us know down in the comments.

Born in Theatre, sits at a Computer. After over a decade of tinkering with Video Editing software, Rich gets to spend his precious time editing whatever's thrown at him. Also the go-to for Doctor Who, and could tell you why Sans Serif fonts are better than most. Still occasionally tap dances under the desk.
