Doctor Who Series 12 - 8 Major Rumours You Need To Know
3. A Return To Horror
Since its debut in 1963, Doctor Who has been synonymous with the idea of watching from behind either the sofa or a strategically placed cushion, as generations of fans have been traumatized by the likes of Daleks, Ice Warriors, and, more recently, the uber-creepy Weeping Angels. However, with the exception of the Morax, series 11 veered away from the show’s horror roots in favour of a lighter, more family-friendly tone intended to offer new or lapsed fans a safe jumping on point.
That could all be set to change in series 12.
In a recent interview with the Radio Times, Bradley Walsh, who plays Team TARDIS member, Grahame, warned viewers to expect “absolutely terrifying” monsters, the likes of which have never been seen in the show. Given the show’s penchant for deftly tapping into the collective subconscious and using it as raw material for crafting spine-chilling monsters, not to mention existing rumours of a fully-fledged gothic horror episode set in 19th century England, this claim is an exciting one for fans who felt underserved by the lack of scares in series 11. Moreover, as the next entry will unpack, this, quote, “darker and scarier” series won’t just be limited to the monsters, but will include The Doctor herself.
