Doctor Who Series 12: Ten Huge Questions After Ascension Of The Cybermen
6. Is Graham Set To Leave?
The very real possibility that not all of the companions will live to fight another day was stronger than ever this week. The Doctor even actively tries to get rid of them. She is at her angriest when she realises her various traps and weapons are powerless and that she has put her friends’ lives at risk.
The Doctor’s biggest fear is that Graham, Ryan and Yaz will be converted into Cyberman, something she swore she would never let happen again (a clear nod to Bill Potts and Danny Pink). But with Ashad seemingly more interested in killing the last surviving humans than converting them, that particular fear looks to be unwarranted.
The limelight has switched between different companions from episode to episode, but one or more of them has had a question mark left hanging over them as to whether their time with the Doctor is coming to an end. This week, Graham took the top spot as the one most likely to go. There were a suspicious number of lines praising him, especially from Yaz who notes how far he has come.
Those hoping for a happy ending for Graham, can draw hope from the cute, budding relationship that Ravio has struck with him. She likes strange, and Graham is clearly flattered by the compliment. Could he be set to leave the Doctor and Sheffield for good? Things might not be ending quite so well, however. The showrunner has promised tears for next week and we are not talking tears of joy here. Graham is prime sacrificial material, a man who would be prepared to risk his own life in order to save the others.
