Doctor Who Series 13: 6 Big Reasons To Be Worried

1. The Mixed Quality Of Series 11 And 12

This is more of a subjective point than the low ratings and that awful timeslot, but from our perspective, Chibnall's first couple of years in charge left a lot to be desired.

Series 11 was painful to watch at points. It got off to a decent start, but The Battle Of Ranskoor Av Kolos is easily the worst finale since NuWho began, and The Ghost Monument/The Tsuranga Conundrum are two all-time stinkers. Even Roy Kent couldn't save that last one.

On the whole, Series 12 was an improvement. It was funnier, faster, a bit more exciting. It had more mystery, and a much-needed injection of returning characters (Captain Jack) and villains (the Judoon). But unfortunately, those all-time stinkers were still present (Orphan 55 and Praxeus), Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill continued to act like planks of wood, and as for that Timeless Child reveal... well, let's not go there. We'd be here all year.

In short, it's tough to be hopeful for Series 13 when Series 11 and 12 turned out as poor as they did. It would be brilliant if Flux was amazing, and restored Doctor Who to its former glory - but Chibnall's track record is against him.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
