Doctor Who: Series 13 Trailer Breakdown - 20 Things You Must See

18. Mary Seacole And The Crimean War

Doctor Who Series 13 (Flux) decayed Master theory
BBC

It's been rumoured for quite some time now (we covered this in a December 2020 article) that Series 13 will feature a Crimean War episode featuring Mary Seacole, a British-Jamaican nurse who was active during that time.

And this looks to be her! The actress here is Sara Powell, who was also mentioned in that early rumour.

The Crimean War was fought between 1853 - 1856, and it's a fascinating historical event that Doctor Who hasn't yet explored. It has been mentioned in the show though, most notably in the Second Doctor serial The Evil Of The Daleks.

As you'd expect with this show, the war won't be depicted in a historically-accurate manner, due to the involvement of one of the Doctor's longest-serving foes...

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
