15. This Space Dog Might Be More Familiar Than You Think

Okay, how long before this adorable thing gets merchandised to death?

Considering the popularity of Chewbacca in Star Wars, it's actually strange that Doctor Who has never tried to do a dog-like alien in the past. We did get those humanoid cats in New Earth though, so now we can finally see the cats-versus-dogs crossover episode we've all been waiting for.

Anyway, the space dog we see in the trailer is a brand-new alien called a Karvanista, and although we've only known about him for one single day, there's already a weird fan theory about him. The Doctor Who fandom does not rest!

Remember that "Introducing Dan Bishop" clip we saw earlier this year? Well, at the start of that clip, we were also introduced to one of Dan's mates, played by actor Craige Els. And get this - apparently, Els is also credited with a recurring role in Series 13, playing a character called... Karvanista.

Obviously, nothing is confirmed right now. But is Dan's mate secretly a massive hairy space dog? That would be quite the plot twist.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
