Doctor Who: Series 13 Trailer Breakdown - 20 Things You Must See

12. Return Of The Ood

One of the nicest surprises in the trailer was getting to see the Ood make their grand return to the show. The Sontarans and Weeping Angels had already been leaked, but this was something we didn't know about.

First introduced as a slave race in Series 2's The Impossible Planet, the Ood haven't featured as the main aliens of an episode since Series 4's Planet Of The Ood - all the way back in 2008.

They popped up in The Waters Of Mars and The End Of Time in 2009 and 2010, but they've barely been seen since. Series 6's The Doctor's Wife featured an Ood quite prominently in 2011, and the latest appearance of these freaky-looking aliens was earlier this year, locked in a prison cell in Revolution Of The Daleks.

What we're trying to say is that a proper Ood story is long overdue. Hopefully Chibnall has something important for them to do, rather than a glorified cameo!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
